Grace England Early Childhood Center Awarded $2,700 from KEF for Early Literacy Grant
Grace England Early Childhood Center was recently honored with a grant from the Klein ISD Education Foundation (KEF) that aims to extend their educational reach beyond books. The grant focuses on fostering connections between reading, real-life experiences, and meaningful family discussions within the Klein ISD community.
During a surprise visit orchestrated by the KEF Celebration Express, the school received this esteemed grant in the presence of Foundation directors, community members, and our esteemed Superintendent, Dr. Jenny McGown.
Amidst an atmosphere of joy and excitement, the Grace England staff warmly welcomed numerous Foundation supporters who disembarked from the Celebration Express school bus. Substantial grants were presented to the recipients, including our cherished little Owls.
Generously sponsored by Riverside Technologies, Inc. (RTI), the $2,700 grant will empower Grace England to engage every student and their families in a project designed to promote active involvement. Firstly, the funding will support the reading of books to students throughout the school year, which families can access for home reading. Secondly, a culminating end-of-year celebration will align with themes from these books. Families will mark milestones, such as completing 25 books each nine weeks, leading to a final celebration upon reaching 100 books.
This project ultimately aims to honor parents' dedication to their children's education, celebrate the students' achievements, and foster a deeper connection to literacy through engaging celebrations that correspond to the books read.
“Catch them when they are young. What a great formula for learning, and it is the simplest opportunity for students to learn and actually the hardest for parents,” KEF President Bill Lakin said. “Parenting your own children is the hardest job there is! However, it is the most important. Engaging in learning activities with children when they are young also develops social skills and enhances the emotional connection between child/parent(s), etc. I am happy to see this grant come to fruition!”
In this fall round, the KEF Celebration Express distributed grants totaling $79,134, enriching educational experiences for our learners. These grants encompass various innovative and engaging projects, from initiatives focused on Math fluency to those enhancing Literacy. The Fall 2023 grant recipients are not just innovative but also serve as inspirations in their dedication to education.
We extend heartfelt gratitude to all our grant sponsors whose contributions have made these initiatives possible. Your support plays a pivotal role in enhancing the educational journey of every Klein ISD student.
The Klein ISD Education Foundation accepts grant applications biannually, encouraging, facilitating, and acknowledging creative projects that drive academic success for our Klein ISD students.
